Story
Sarah, originally named Sarai, was Abraham’s wife and shared in the call to leave their homeland and follow God's promise. Though childless and well beyond the age of bearing children, God promised that she would be the mother of nations.
In her waiting, Sarah struggled with doubt and gave Hagar to Abraham, resulting in the birth of Ishmael — a decision that led to conflict and sorrow.
Yet God remained faithful. At the appointed time, Sarah conceived and bore Isaac, the child of promise. Her laughter turned from disbelief to joy, and she declared, 'God has made laughter for me.'
Sarah died at the age of 127 and is the only woman in Scripture whose age at death is recorded — a mark of her significance in redemptive history.
Spiritual Significance
- Wife of Abraham and co-recipient of God’s covenant promises
- Gave birth to Isaac in her old age, fulfilling God's promise
- Remembered in the New Testament for her faith and example
Christ Connection
Sarah's miraculous conception of Isaac foreshadows the greater miracle of Jesus’ birth. Just as Isaac came through promise and faith, Jesus came as the ultimate fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan.
