Spiritual Warfare
Victory in Christ, battle on earth.
Original Word: πόλεμος (polemos)
Reference: Revelation 12:7
Meaning: War, conflict, battle.
Scripture shows there has been war in heaven — a spiritual conflict that now continues on earth, but one that will ultimately end in victory for the Lamb.
The Christian life is not a playground — it’s a battleground. The moment we follow Christ, we step into a war that is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12).
This war is unseen, but it is real. Satan hates God and opposes His people. But the enemy is not equal to God — he is defeated, and Jesus reigns.
Spiritual warfare is not about fear or superstition. It is about standing firm in the truth, resisting temptation, fighting lies with the Word, and praying with confidence in Christ’s victory.
The Nature of the Battle
Paul reminds us: “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against… the spiritual forces of evil” (Ephesians 6:12).
This means our true enemies are not people, but lies, sin, pride, fear, and demonic powers that stand against God’s truth. We fight a spiritual war with spiritual weapons (2 Corinthians 10:3–5).
Our Enemy Is Defeated — But Active
Satan was defeated at the cross (Colossians 2:15), but he still prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to destroy (1 Peter 5:8).
He lies, tempts, accuses, and deceives (John 8:44; Revelation 12:10). But those in Christ are no longer under his authority — “resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
The Armor of God
God gives us armor to stand strong:
- Belt of Truth
- Breastplate of Righteousness
- Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
- Shield of Faith
- Helmet of Salvation
- Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God)
(Ephesians 6:10–18)
We don’t fight for victory — we fight *from* victory, standing in Christ’s strength, not our own.
Prayer: Our Constant Weapon
Prayer is not passive — it is warfare. Paul ends the armor passage by saying: “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions… be alert” (Ephesians 6:18).
Prayer aligns us with God’s will, calls down His power, and strengthens our soul. We fight best on our knees.
Victory in Christ
Jesus disarmed every ruler and authority (Colossians 2:15). “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8).
We overcome “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony” (Revelation 12:11). Our enemy is real — but he is defeated. Jesus is Lord.

Spiritual warfare is not about fear or mystical formulas — it’s about standing firm in the truth of Christ. He has already won the war, but we are still called to fight the daily battle. Stay alert. Stay armored. Pray without ceasing. And remember: greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
